Baby Teeth & Childrens Dental Health
At Kingsview Dental Clinic, we begin caring for your child's dental health from as young as one year old
Emphasizing the importance of primary teeth, commonly known as baby teeth. These teeth are crucial not just for chewing and speaking, but also for holding space in the jaws for the developing permanent teeth. A child’s 20 primary teeth, already present in the jaws at birth, typically start to appear between 6 and 12 months. To ease any discomfort during this phase, gentle gum massage or a clean teething ring can be beneficial.
Understanding why taking care of baby teeth is important is vital.
If a baby tooth is lost prematurely, it can lead to permanent teeth drifting into the wrong position, causing alignment issues like crooked or crowded teeth. Good oral care from infancy can prevent these problems and safeguard dental health for years.
We recommend a dental visit within six months after the first tooth emerges and no later than the first birthday. This early dental checkup helps in monitoring tooth decay, guiding proper cleaning techniques, and addressing habits like thumbsucking. Proper care of baby teeth sets the foundation for a healthy, lifelong smile.
